Locus

A community space celebrating the hyperlocality of False Creek.

Working with Emily Carr University and GNW Trust, this project proposed a possible space activation in the recently recontextualized, Great Northern Way area.

The site has a complicated history. It was part of False Creek, a notable food source for Indigenous communities until British settlers terraformed it for commercial purposes. A portion of the area remains as factories and railways.

Up to recently, the area has very few residential properties. Locus aims to be a gathering place for the new transplants. Inspired by Greek theatres and Coast Salish Formline elements, the building will serve as a gallery and community centre, with an emphasis on equity and reconciliation.
